I have completed a degree in Science (majoring in Applied Biology) and undertook postgraduate studies in Health Science, primarily molecular microbiology. My research focused on the gastrointestinal bacterium Campylobacter jejuni and antibiotic resistance. Although I primarily studied microbiology, I have diverse interests in many different fields of science and technology. I have worked in scientific distribution and calibration companies in customer service and administrative roles. I now work in research administration in a leading Australian university. I have been a writer for many years and have a real interest in science and health/medical writing. I am an aspiring science writer and am hoping to start a career in this field.
As a queer woman with a background in science I am intrigued to hear about other women’s (and specifically lesbian and bisexual women) experiences in science, medical, health, engineering and technological professions. I was inspired by strong, smart intelligent female scientists and a strong interest in the world and how things work, to follow a career in science. I’m interested in other women’s stories as to what inspired them to pursue a career in science. And I also would love to hear the personal stories of lesbian / gay / bisexual / queer / trans women who have pursued a career in science, medicine, health, engineering and technical professions. I am also intrigued by the portrayal of female scientists in the media, including television shows.
Apart from discussions on female scientists and science in general, I like to blog about my observations of wildlife, plants and fungi.

Hi Sapphicscientist!
I found your blog via google. I wanted to give you some feedback so you will continue to post. I fear I am too late.
I hope you keep writing down your thoughts.
Cheers!
Thanks for the comment. I will continue to post. Work, life and fiction writing has got in the way. There is always something interesting happening in science or society
great looking blog and I look forward to your future posts
Thanks Helen. There will be some interesting discussions of controversy, science communication and yes, unpasteurised ‘raw’ milk.
